Project Background
Our client Forever Home Dog Rescue (FHDR) is a network of foster homes and does not have a physical location. The whole rescue network is community-based. They do behavioral testings before sending the dogs to foster and they are also responsible for getting dogs not only vetted and current on vaccines but also healthy before putting them on the adoptable list. They advocate for every dog and they’re committed to finding each dog their best fit.
Key issues on the current website

Our goals FHDR wants to achieve from redesigning
We kicked off the project some initial research methods to collect users’ needs and requirements. I interviewed with stakeholders and did a competitive analysis.

Research
After initial research, we came up with three personas, primary focus on the adaptor, then foster and volunteer as the secondary persona.

Since their current website is confusing and not clear about the adoption process and event page. we used the card sorting method to come up with an updated information architecture to clarify the process.

Keeping the goal and new information architecture in mind, we conducted an iterative design process to prototype both paper and digital versions, then evaluated with users.

Final Design Walk Through
Original

Current

- Simplified the way to find "Available Dogs".
-
Put "Available Dogs" on their website.

-
Bring dogs available onto FHDR site and include filters that would help potential adopters find their forever dog.

-
Build adoption application form on FHDR site with confirmation page once submitted that includes next steps.

-
Changed the format and clear the title.

-
We provided supporting information to connect events with the adoption process.
-
Having the options on "how to adopt" makes it clear to someone who doesn't know.

-
Having form similar to the adoption application that is built into the site and provide a confirmation message would alleviate potential fosters from having to take action between now and complete a foster application.

-
Use "Get Involved" in the main menu and include Volunteer and Foster within that.
-
Volunteer opportunities could be elaborated on with more opportunities, including commitment, location, and timing.

Design
Color palette:
Primary colors
Orange = happy, blue = trust

Secondary colors
We kept their color on the current website.

Font:
Raleway & Raleway
It is not rigid like a serif, but it's serious enough to have credibility.
What would we do differently?
• Reviewed Wix capabilities/limitations during the research phase.
• Brought in engineering for review of research and discussion of IA.
• Requested an introduction to FHDR's photography contact.
• Explored additional options to save applications for later and "favorite" dogs.
We will continue working on this project to include engineering work on filtering and bring applications onto Wix site and FHDR's photography on-site needs.
